TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Flexibility in scheduling is required.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.

 

Shifts: Monday to Friday, 08:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m.

Job description
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The Salvation Army Centre of Hope Housing Worker in the Housing Stability Bank Department is responsible to
assist in the organization, facilitation and delivery of Housing Stability Bank Programs including: Rental
Assistance and Emergency Utility Assistance programs. As The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus
Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world, every position
contributes to the spiritual and social services mission of The Salvation Army, ensuring that their work and
interactions with clients and coworkers is done in a manner befitting Christian standards, attitudes, principles
and goals.

Accountabilities:

1. General
• To promote the mission, policies and objectives of The Salvation Army
• Develop/have an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications
as related to position responsibilities and support the Mission in all aspects of work, including the
manner in which responsibilities are fulfilled

• To maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers of The Salvation
Army London Centre of Hope
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training.

 

2. Client Services
• Follow-up with vendors regarding outstanding accounts
• Prepare cheque requisitions for vendors as required
• Greet applicants, and provide a welcoming environment

3. Health and Safety
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and
safety policies and procedures.
• Work closely with security, identifying any safety and security needs
• Responsible to work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Acts and Regulations
• Responsible to use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer
• Responsible to report workplace hazards and dangers
• Responsible to work in a manner as required by the employer and use the prescribed safety
equipment
• Responsible to report workplace injuries or illness

4. Finance
• Responsible for assisting in general accounting and related financial duties associated with Housing
Stability Bank
• Code and verify proper authorization of all invoices and cheque requisitions prior to submission to
Regional Accounting Centre (RAC)
• Prepare monthly invoicing for processing
• Manage the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable statements
• File all finance records in an orderly manner as identified by supervisor
• Input Housing Stability Bank loans onto scheduler and maintain scheduler information accurately
• Prepare transmit file reports for uploading to Financial Institutions systems
• Record, reconcile and monitor Housing Stability Bank loan repayments as required
• Prepare Housing Stability Bank loan deposits and record on database and spreadsheet
• Collect cash, and debit payments made by applicants and send to regional accounting for
processing
• Provide reimbursement to applicants as required

5. Communication
• Participate as an active and responsible team member in all work groups through which position
responsibilities are achieved
• Represent the organization in a professional manner, acting in the best interest of the employer at
all times

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:

• This position reports directly to the Housing Stability Bank Manager or designate.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.

• Understanding of and support for a Housing First philosophy in relation to client service delivery.

• Provide an original copy of a Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector screening secured
through either the national Canadian Police Information Centre or through a local police
detachment; Note: A satisfactory criminal background check is required
• Understanding of, support for and commitment to the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army
and a willingness to adhere to them
• Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.

Normal hours of work – may vary as per operational requirements and responsibilities, and includes a ½ hour
paid meal break where applicable.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
• Completion of a two-year Community College diploma in the field of accounting or business
preferred
• Minimum one year of prior related experience in the accounting/business field, with proven
knowledge of standard accounting and financial procedures and processes
• Strong working knowledge of Excel and Access
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
• Proven ability to successfully manage projects independently; strong planning and problem-solving
skills; ability to organize own work effectively and meet demanding deadlines

Skills and Capabilities:
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to
The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an
original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
• Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The
Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
