Flexibility in scheduling is required.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.

Job Description:
Position Purpose summary: 

The Maintenance Coordinator at The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope is responsible to provide coordination to the maintenance program and vehicles. As The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world, every position contributes to the spiritual and social services mission of The Salvation Army, ensuring that their work and interactions with clients and coworkers is done in a manner befitting Christian standards, attitudes, principles and goals.

Accountabilities:

Property Maintenance

  • Responsible for managing the inventory of building and maintenance supplies in collaboration with the Environmental Services Manager; including but not limited to identifying, ordering, receiving and storage of required items.
  • Responsible for managing the work flow of the maintenance department by assigning Preventative Maintenance tasks, along with work orders while verifying work completed.
  • Ensure that all Fire Safety equipment is inspected and maintained in accordance with the Fire Code.
  • Ensure the safety and aesthetic of the building and property, anticipating current and future preventative maintenance requirements.
  • Work in conjunction with the maintenance team to ensure the timely completion of work orders and assigned tasks.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and training to maintenance staff in support of their developmental needs.
  • Responsible for completing a daily inspection of the building and grounds to record and assign work to address any deficiencies.
  • Collaborating with the ES Manager to coordinate renovation projects including but not limited to dry walling, minor electrical repairs, painting and plumbing.
  • Trouble shoot repair needs and determine the appropriate time to call in a professional service.
  • Ensure effective communication to all employees and Management when work is to be performed that may impede their work.
  • Ensure that all machinery, equipment and tools are kept in good working order and stored appropriately.
  • Ensure all preventative maintenance is performed on all vehicles, on schedule and appropriate records are kept current.

Health and Safety

  • Responsible to work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Acts and Regulations
  • Monitor and report regularly any concern regarding adherence to the acceptable health standards and that physical property is maintained, arranging for repairs as necessary
  • Responsible to use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer
  • Responsible to report workplace hazards and dangers
  • Responsible to work in a manner as required by the employer and use the prescribed safety equipment
  • Responsible to report workplace injuries or illness

Organizational Responsibilities:

  • To maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers of The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position reports directly to the Environmental Services Manager or designate.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
  • Understanding of, support for and commitment to the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army and a willingness to adhere to themNormal hours of work – may vary as per operational requirements and responsibilities, and includes a ½ hour paid meal break where applicable.Education and Experience Qualifications:

    Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

    • Secondary School education with additional training in facility services is preferred Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
    • Valid G driver’s license with a good driving record (a copy of a current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required for using company vehicle)
    • Working knowledge of CVOR
    • Working knowledge of bobcat and forklift

     Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

    • At least two years’ experience in a property/maintenance related field
    • Knowledge of building systems and vehicle maintenance is required
    • Experience with inventory systems and preventative maintenance schedules
    • Demonstrates maintenance skills at a professional level
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office
    • Work in compliance to the OHSA
    • Good oral communication skills
    • Proven trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent organizational skills, ability to follow detailed instructions
    • Physically able to perform the essential duties of the job

     

    Skills and Capabilities:

    • Self-motivated and disciplined
    • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment when making decisions
    • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
    • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
